Modi Modern Indigenous Designers
A mix of 30something designers coming from different fields of design, each one with his/her own take on fusing modern design and function with indigenous artistry.

Richie Ortega: Fashion Designer a nd retailer
“I tried to work with what they did well already, and just flew with that. But at the same time, just gave it little touches of "hip" so that the outside world could understand it better.”

Tracie Anglo Dizon, Fashion and Graphic Designer
Graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York and Paris with a BFA in Communication Design. Lived and worked in NYC for 11 years as a graphic designer.

“What attracted me (to Modi) was the fact that we can make a difference, as designers, in the way people perceive tribal crafts. I saw tremendous potential.

I wanted to use the essence of tribal people's designs and make it modern. I just simplified, changed the color combination, and voila, it’s suddenly different. Combined in a different way, indigenous crafts become surprisingly contemporary and relevant to a modern lifestyle.

Husband and wife design tandem, Mara Coscolluela and Kirby Quintal,
Interior Designer and Product/Graphic Designer respectively.

“Our main theme is Form & Function. Our designs are a play of sizes, shapes and shades with flexible functionality.”

Ito Kish: Interior Designer, Product Designer, Retailer
Currently maintains a regular home make-over column for Metro home and entertaining magazine, one of the Philippine’s well known home publications and co-hosts a weekly lifestyle TV show called URBAN ZONE. He is also the owner of Gallano Designs (www.gallanodesigns.com), which does Interior decorating, retail, product design and events.

Gabby Lichauco, Product Designer
Gabby Lichauco graduated from Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan with a masters degree in Industrial Design. He recently went back home to Manila and opened a design studio called Open Studio. His design philosophy is sexy, simple and quirky.
